Spotlight 2022 Spotlight #6 – Made in RO
One of the most anticipated outdoor visual art festivals in Bucharest, Spotlight returns between October 14 and 16, 2022 with an edition entirely dedicated to artists from Romania.
The theme of this year’s Spotlight edition is entitled Made in RO and invites Romanian artists to reimagine the city through new media. Spotlight thus transforms a niche field of visual arts, multimedia art, into a tool for connecting residents to the city in which they live. After five editions that presented a mix of international creations and creations of local artists, Spotlight presents in 2022 the latest new media projects from Romania, projects with participation in international high-profile festivals.
The main location of Spotlight 2022 is Calea Victoriei, between the National Military Circle and the Romanian Athenaeum. Between October 14 and 16, every evening between 19.00 and 23.00, the festival route on Calea Victoriei is animated by 3D characters, interactive installations, video mapping projections and VR works.
The second Spotlight destination this year is the Arc de Triomphe, which will be activated on October 16 through a special event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the monument’s inauguration.
On Calea Victoriei, the Spotlight program starts at 7:00 p.m. and invites Bucharesters to discover emblematic places in Bucharest transformed by video-mapping projections and light-art installations.
Every evening of the festival, the National Military Circle, the Odeon Theater and the Novotel Hotel come alive with video mapping, sound and light shows. From the series of interactive installations, Spotlight audiences are invited to compose music from airborne particles in the Particle Composer installation in front of the Novotel Hotel. And in front of the National Art Museum of Romania, eight 3D animated creatures come to life in the VR installation “Folklore Creatures – BestiAR”. The center of entertainment at Spotlight is right in front of the Music store, where the party atmosphere given by the Discoball installation is maintained by the good music broadcast live by Radio Europa FM.
Revolution Square is home to two large light-art installations, “Human Head” created by the Romanian start-up Humans.ai and Kaleidoscope by Kaustik. And on the sidewalk of the National Art Museum of Romania, the “Lumi.Nativ” installation invites passers-by to walk through a tunnel of light traversed by successive pulsations.
Present for the first time at the Spotlight festival, Monument for integrates two emblematic statues from Bucharest and the Arc de Triomphe in the program of this year’s edition. On the Calea Victoriei route, the statue of Mihai Eminescu from the Romanian Athenaeum and the equestrian statue of Charles I in front of the Central University Library are animated by video mapping projections as part of the “Living Statues” program, a campaign that aims to promote emblematic monuments of the city through a series of artistic reactivations.
The second Spotlight location this year is the Arc de Triomphe, which will be activated on October 16 through a special event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the monument’s inauguration. The centenary of the Arc de Triomphe is thus marked as part of Spotlight de Monument for through a video mapping show on the facade of the building. The public is invited to discover the interior of the monument through a thematic exhibition related to the history of the time and a performance will create a historical and emotional itinerary inside.
