The Square Cat on the Palace of Telephones
Location: Palatul Telefoanelor
Artist: Alexandru Ciubotariu aka Pisica Pătrată
An iconic figure for Bucharest street art, The Square Cat returns to Spotlight with a new piece which mixes light-art with urban art. This time around, The Square Cat’s characters become oversized, climb an iconic building of Bucharest and fold perfectly on the corners of the Palace of Telephones. The Square Cat on The Palace of Telephones is a new oppotunity to investigate urban anatomy, this time in an ephemeral work built from light.
One of the most acclaimed illstrators and mural artists in Romania, Alexandru Ciubotariu is known for his comic book creations, as well as for his street art works which have canvassed the entire country under the name Pisica Pătrată / The Square Cat. Among the first Romanian urban artists, Alexandru Ciubotariu declared “I want to beautify the city, not vandalize it” through street art. Today, he has more than 100 exhibitions and interventions in exhibition spaces in the country and abroad, more than 35 awards for illustration and comics, the first street art album in Romania and dozens of children’s illustrated books and volumes of comics.
