From October 11th to October 13th, the Spotlight International Festival of Light, the 8th edition, the largest visual art event organized by the Bucharest City Hall, through ARCUB – Cultural Centre of Bucharest, powered by Raiffeisen Bank Romania, brings a unique display of light and technology to Calea Victoriei: impressive light art installations and video mapping on the city’s emblematic buildings will offer the public a unique immersive experience.

Throughout the three days of the festival, Spotlight 2024 will take visitors along Calea Victoriei, where important buildings and public spaces in Bucharest will offer a new media show of lights and projections.

The route starts at the National Military Circle and continues with projections and installations at the Odeon Theater, Telefoanelor Palace, Novotel Hotel, Muzica Store, Revolution Square, Central University Library, The National Museum of Art of Romania, George Enescu Square. Hotel InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest marks the end of the Spotlight 2024 itinerary.

International artists will present for the first time in Bucharest large-scale multimedia installations which will be brought to life on Calea Victoriei. Versatile Franco-German artist Julien Menzel presents, for the first time in Romania, the Phénix and Echo projects, interactive works that challenge viewers to become part of the artistic act. Simultaneously, visual artist Émilien Guesnard exhibits asklipion, an innovative art project that explores the connection between nature, light and sound through 120 lamps housing frozen plants.

Present in the Spotlight 2024 line-up, Romanian artists bring to the public’s attention projects that highlight current themes of today’s society. From installations that address the connection between the human and the divine all the way to the devastating impact of global warming, the light artworks presented at Spotlight this year redefine the way we relate to the great challenges of the present.

This edition’s program will not miss the Discoballs installation at the Muzica Shop, which will transform the urban space into a meeting place for music lovers and will bring more fun on Calea Victoriei through games of light, shadow, and animated patterns.
