The third edition of Spotlight brought together 22 multimedia installations and projections, attracting artists from nine countries. The festival included a mix of spectacular video mapping and four evenings of new media art, on a pedestrian route that stretched from the National Museum of Art of Romania to Splaiul Independenței.
The festival brought collaborations with Art Safari and Mobius Gallery, and brought together award-winning works at international festivals, and international partnerships included the Festival of Lights in Berlin and Signal Festival in Prague. With its increasing notoriety, the festival has also expanded its artistic scope, with screenings and innovative installations from Germany, Poland, Finland or Slovakia.
Calea Victoriei was transformed into a huge exhibition space of 7000 sqm, where the public had the opportunity to discover spectacular reinterpretations of the emblematic buildings of Bucharest, such as the Grand Hôtel du Boulevard, the Novotel Hotel, the Military Circle or the Palace of Telephones.
The event began with an extraordinary light show by the Austrian band Phoenix Fire Dancers, and over the four days the festival was complemented by live performances, flashmobs and DJ sets, attracting tens of thousands of spectators. The audience had the opportunity to explore fascinating visual worlds every evening from 20:30 to 23:00, on a route along the Victory Road. With an impressive participation and a diversity of artists and collaborators, the 2017 edition of SPOTLIGHT Festival consolidated its place as a reference point in Bucharest's cultural calendar.
