Marko Bolković is the founder and director of the Visualia Light Festival in Pula — the first festival in Croatia dedicated to light art, launched in 2013. With a career that bridges art, technology, and cultural production, Marko has been active for over 20 years in the fields of light design, sound, and new media.
Originally from Belgrade and a graduate of the SAE Institute Ljubljana, where he studied audio engineering, Marko began his professional journey in his teenage years as a light and sound technician in local theaters. By the age of 18, he became the chief lighting technician at the Istrian National Theatre in Pula, and at 25, he was the youngest member ever accepted into the Croatian Association of Applied Arts (ULUPUH).
Throughout his career, he founded the Sonitus Association and the Visualia Group art collective, through which he has developed numerous video mapping projects, interactive light installations, and participatory works showcased at renowned international festivals such as Lumina Festival (Portugal), Bella Skyway (Poland), Luna Festival (Netherlands), and 1 Min Mapping (Japan).
Since 2019, the Visualia Light Festival has been a member of the International Light Festivals Organization (ILO), where Marko Bolković serves on the board of directors as Secretary. In parallel, he leads the Visualia company, which specializes in museum digitalization, custom light installations, AR/VR experiences, and video mapping.
Through his work, Marko Bolković continuously contributes to the growth of the international light art scene, combining technical expertise with artistic vision, and fostering education, innovation, and cultural collaboration.
