In 2022, Spotlight returned to Bucharest with an edition dedicated entirely to Romanian artists. The festival also marked the closing of the project “Open Streets — Bucharest, Urban Promenade”, a project that offered Bucharesters the opportunity to explore the city on foot during pedestrian weekends held over six months.
The theme of this year's edition, Made in RO, highlighted the talent of Romanian artists, inviting them to reimagine Bucharest through new media and transform the city into an interactive space where technology meets art. From spectacular video-mapping screenings to interactive installations and holograms, the festival has breathed new life into the capital's urban landscape, highlighting the innovative creations of local artists.
During the festival, Calea Victoriei was illuminated by artistic works that turned the facades of the city's iconic buildings into a real light show. The video-mapping projections brought to life the statue of Mihai Eminescu and the equestrian statue of Carol I, and interactive installations activated the whole area, and the Discoball installation returned to the facade of the Muzica store, becoming an attraction, accompanied by music mixed by Radio Europa FM.
A special moment of the 2022 edition was the event dedicated to the Centenary of the Arc de Triomphe, which turned this iconic monument into a video-mapping show, complemented by a thematic exhibition and a historical performance that provided the audience with an exciting, exciting experience.
In a narrow formula, with a smaller number of installations to reduce energy consumption, Spotlight 2022 continued the festival's tradition of bringing art and technology together, providing a platform for affirmation for Romanian artists and an opportunity for Bucharesters to celebrate the city and its culture in an innovative way.
